Built on a working bench

BenchKey didn’t start as a software company. It started as a repair company: MDRepairs, a data recovery business with real customers, real mail-in jobs, and a real counter that needed running.

The software we could buy never quite fit. Tools built in boardrooms treat the customer as a notification setting, intake as a data-entry form, and the bench as an afterthought. So we built our own, first to run our shop, then, feature by feature, into something worth offering to yours.

That origin shapes everything. Every feature in BenchKey exists because our own counter hit a wall: the live customer portal exists because update calls were eating our bench time; the mail-in pipeline exists because we run one; Affirm financing exists because four-figure data recovery quotes die without it. New features run on our own customers before they ship to anyone else’s.

We think that’s the right way to build shop software: not by interviewing repair shops, but by being one.
